Accommodation
The Summit Management Office has determined that official delegations, media and support staff will not be lodged in individual homes and cottages. The principal reason for this decision is purely logistics. Delegations tend to travel and be accommodated as a group. These groups can be comprised of 20+ delegates who, for language and cultural reasons, like to stay together.
Since June 2008 Muskoka Tourism has been working with the G8 Summit Office to block accommodation and provide first right of refusal. Over that period of time the Summit Office had a choice from 400 property listings (commercial properties, private residences and private cottages) representing over 5,200 guest rooms in Muskoka. As you can imagine, there will be many other people attending the G8 Summit requiring accommodation. If you are still interested in renting your property, there are some options.
Muskoka Tourism will create a G8 Accommodation page on their website that will list available rental properties. We propose to identify: the property type (private residence, private cottage, hunt camp, apartment, etc); the number of guest rooms available; the community where the accommodation is located; a link to your website (if available) and your e-mail address.. This will mean that those people interested in renting your property will contact you directly by e-mail. You should be prepared to screen all requests, discuss the specific rental terms and conditions (rental rates, advance deposits, cancellation fees, damage deposits, liability insurance, etc) with each potential renter. Please visit Muskoka Tourism online or by phone 1-800-267-9700 or email info@muskokatourism.ca.
A listing on our website is provided at no cost to you. If you feel comfortable with this arrangement, please confirm by return e-mail that you are willing to have your property listed on our website. We need your written permission to proceed.
A second option is to use the services of a rental agency. These businesses will act as an intermediary between yourself and the potential renter. On a fee for service basis, they will represent your interests. There are several companies that provide this service in Muskoka:
