10,000 Steps

This is the number of steps an active person should be walking each day!   Many of us are walking much less than that.   Busy lifestyles, tight deadlines, work schedules and difficult walking conditions are often cited as barriers to staying active.   Did you know that 6 out of 10 Canadians are inactive?   Increasing our physical activity has great benefits including reducing the risk of diabetes and heart disease as well as helping us achieve and maintain a healthy body weight.

So how do you know if you are walking enough?   That's where the 10,000 Steps Program comes in. This program involves wearing a pedometer for three days and measuring the number of steps you actually walk.   With a bit of planning you can increase your walking each day until you are reaching 10,000 steps (or your own goal) each day. The pedometer is worn over a twelve-week period until your goal is reached.   A personal journal is used to track your progress.

This program runs year round and you can start at any time. Just contact any of the numbers below for details.

Debbie Deluca - Huntsville Community Services - 789-6421 Ext. 3022

Kim Bendall - AHS Diabetes Centre - 789-2311 Ext. 312

Concerts in the Park

We are excited about our new series of six summer performances for the Huntsville community for the summer of 2007.  Many of you came last summer with your lawn chairs to enjoy a variety of musical performances outdoors on a lovely summer's eve.  The first concert will be Wednesday July 18 and we will conclude on Wednesday August 22.  To date the list of performers include: Tina Turley, Wyatt Williamson, Norm Forrester, Muskoka Concert Band and the Cameron of Lochiel Pipes and Drums.  We ask those in the audience to contribute a "toonie" for the tunes.  All monies go to the performer.  In the event of inclement on the day of a concert, listen to MORE FM for cancellation details.  For more information on Concerts in the Park, contact 789-6421 ext. 3022.
